New Beers
Barleycorn's continue to find beers that are unusual or from small breweries that you will find difficult to get from anywhere else.
These are the most recently arrived, others are on their way. If you want to be notified of the new arrivals put your email address on our mailing list (see Keep in Touch on the left).
Titanic Iceberg: 50cl, 4.1%abv, £1.90. "A combination of Maris Ottter pale malt and fine wheat malt, give this refreshing beer real zest. Add fresh tasting Yakima Galena and Cascade hops and what you get is a fantastic wheat beer that will hole any passing thirst." Brewery description
Cantillon Gueuze: 37.5cl, 5.0%abv, £3.65+dep. Gueuze is a blend of three year old lambic with one year old lambic. Although it is only 5.0%, Cantillon say this beer will quite happily store for twenty years.
Cantillon Rose de Gambrinus: 37.5cl, 5.0%abv, £4.25+dep. This is the beer that rekindled interest in fruit lambics. Over the years up 1973, when this beer was first produced, lambics had been getting ever sweeter, using fruit syrups. Cantillon returned to basics, using real fruit to produce a subtle blending which doesn't allow the sweetness to swamp the acidity of the lambic. it was given this name to distinguish this beer from existing fruit lambics.
Price Increases
As you are probably aware the duty on beer was sharply increased at the last budget. The duty is not payable until the beer leaves the brewery or, for imported beers, when it enters the country. As a result there are some stocks, both in Barleycorn's and at wholesalers at the old duty rate.
In line with our normal policy Barleycorn's will not be passing on the new prices until they are passed on to us.
